Author: Glorie Townson
You just won a million dollars, what do you do first?
Pay off all my debt. Seriously, I’m not as bad off as most people, but college was expensive and the idea of starting from scratch sounds nice.
You won a trip around the world, but you pick the destinations, where are you visiting and why?
I’ve always wanted to go to Hong Kong, but am a bit leery about entering China. Other than that, I’d leave from New York and head to London, moving on to Venice, then Cairo, followed by Sydney, then Tokyo, a cruise across the Pacific to hit Hawaii, then down the coast to Peru, Argentina, and then back home.
It’s Halloween … people can find you dressed as?
I rarely dress for Halloween, but I’ve been known to appear in the form of a female Batman. That’s right, I said female Batman and not Batgirl.
Morning person or night person?
Totally morning, when I have control of the time I rise. Getting up for work is never easy, but when I’m on vacation. I’m an early riser, ready to not waste the day.
Favorite cold breakfast food?
Cereal. I can eat it any time of the day.
Describe yourself using these letters TOI THOMAS:
Tomboy, Overachiever, Intuitive, Technical, Hospitable, Observant, Meticulous, Artistic, Sincere
Do you like to cook?
I adore cooking and baking.
A genie granted you 3 wishes … what are they?
World peace, a healthier body, and C-list fame (just enough to sell books by namesake, but not enough to be stalked or asked to do reality TV)
What is your favorite quote in life?
Nothing gold can stay.
Do you have a muse or voice in your head that motivates you?
Yes, several, but the only one I’m letting out right now is Glorie Townson. She writes pretty good books and helps me embrace my girly side.
If you could tell your childhood self some advice for the future-what would that be?
Yes you are getting married despite your efforts to scare all the men away and no you are not doing to be a doctor in outer space.
And lastly—If you had to give advice to children out there wanting to become an author, aspiring to get their books published… what would that be?
First of all, I’d say write. Write every idea that comes to mind even if you never develop them.
Second, share your writing; not every single thing, but some. As a writer, you’ll always feel a bit incomplete if you aren’t sharing your words with someone other than yourself.
Third, don’t let the pursuit of publication steal your joy for writing. Like everything else in life, writing takes practice and publication takes time. Do your research and keep your eyes on the prize no matter what anyone else says or what circumstances may be showing.
Glorie Townson is more than just a pen name for the author, Toi Thomas; she’s an entirely different personality. Glorie is the softer side of Toi, who puts down her comic books and picks up a volume of Robert Frost poems. Like Toi, Glorie is happily married to her wonderfully supportive husband, and together they share a home with their pet turtle, Betty. This is Glorie’s first publication, but she’s already feeling the inspiration to pen another tale, to which she’ll gladly share with the world.
